When I was doing a Knifemaker tip video fro Instagram about how I drill my handle scales, everyone seemed very interested in the pins that I used when I drilled the handle sets. I know offer the pins I use for purchase.
The size you order is the size it will be. The manufacturer states the diameter tolerance is ±0.0002″. These are hardened dowel pins that are 50-58 HRC so you don’t have to worry about them getting a ding in them too easily.
The the caps have grooves in the outside diameter that serve 2 purposes, it helps to have more grip and help the pins to not roll on the workbench as much. I love these new caps so much I have replaced all of mine in my workshop from how I use to have G10 and Micarta tubes epoxied onto the pins. The caps are 3D printed in PLA and should be plenty durable for this application in the workshop. Pins caps are 1/2″ long and have a little over 1″ of exposed pin for inserting while drilling.
Block holds the pins extremely well and doesn’t require a much effort to pull them out. A little press down in the taper, and the pins won’t fall out either!
